SUMMONING DEATH "A Traumatic Night Of The Creeps" Mini CD (Chaos Records 2023)
Hailing from the always fertile Mexican death metal scene, SUMMONING DEATH began as a parallel project by Ricardo Gil (ex-Denial) and Francisco Aguilar (Shub Nigurath) in early 2010 with the idea of playing death-doom metal in the classic Swedish and Finnish veins. For a time, Ricardo moved to Querétaro, where he tries to rearm the band with Héctor and Iván from Question, but due to commitments of both, the project was buried until 2012 when Ricardo returned to Cancun and continued working with Francisco Aguilar/ After several lineup changes and after having recorded two demos - Cadaveric Environment (2014) and A Window From an Evil Place (2015) - they solidified their lineup as José (guitars), Ángel (drums), Carlos (bass and voice) , Ricardo (guitar), and Melina (live voice).
Together with the original vision and influences, SUMMONING DEATH entered the studio in December 2017 to record their first full-length, The House That Screamed. Released in 2018 via CHAOS RECORDS, their debut album took as old inspiration a series of B-movies from the '50s and '60s mixed with doomy death metal in the vein of early Amorphis, Depravity, Demilich, Toxemia, Lubricate, and Grave among others. Nearly a year later, in November 2018, due to some setbacks with their bassist / vocalist Carlos Cruz, they decided to recruit Sergio Alvarez (Difer Nom Basta, ex-Hacavitz, ex-Ravager) on bass and Melina occupying the permanent position on voice.
By the end of 2019 and due to changes of residence of some members and alternate projects, more changes were made in the SUMMONING DEATH lineup, with recruiting made of Gray Lara on bass (ex-Ticio), who at the time had already recorded the bass on the A Window From An Evil Place demo. For her part in the voice, Abigail Paz is recruited, who had been performing as a vocalist in the band Ticio, and for the drums, Ivan Herrera (Evil Entourage, Delirium, ex-Rapture, ex-Zombiefication) is recruited. With this lineup, the band entered the studio to record their second album, One Step Beyond. Released in 2020, again by CHAOS RECORDS, the album continued the theme '60s movies which addressed supernatural themes and that would be the precedent for the Twilight Zone series, achieving a sound full of mysterious passages but without leaving aside the brutality of the old school of European death metal.
During 2021 and 2022, SUMMONING DEATH remained active on the live front. During this time, they dedicated themselves to recording songs for the compilation Serpeientes del Sur. This participation along with a couple of other songs in which the band were working on are part of their first official EP. Titled A Traumatic Night of The Creeps, the EP focuses themes seen in slasher films of the '80s, and comprises two new tracks - "Night of the Creeps" and "Halloween" - plus two covers: Traumatic's "The Morbid Act of a Sadistic Rape " and Edge of Sanity's "Darkday." A fun-yet-powerful short-length, A Traumatic Night of the Creeps encapsulates where SUMMONING DEATH are coming from and also where they're going, for they'll be recording their third album for CHAOS around the time of this EP's release.
